On 30 May 2026, within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme–funded project “Establishing and Operating an Innovative Marine Technology Transfer Network for Enhancing the Transition to a Sustainable Blue Economy in the Black Sea Basin” (EfxINNOs), a seminar for young researchers was organized in Tbilisi, Georgia, by Ilia State University.
The seminar was attended by:
- Ketevan Kupatadze, Professor at Ilia State University and Scientific Coordinator of EfxINNOs;
- Nutsa Meghvinetukhutsesi, Senior Researcher of EfxINNOs;
- Dr. Ayşe Gazihan (online), Senior Researcher of EfxINNOs from Istanbul University.
The meeting included the following activities:
- Methodology for estimating chlorophyll-a concentrations using remote sensing techniques;
- Methodologies for determining various chemical parameters of seawater through in situ measurements, the importance of continuous monitoring, and an overview of EfxINNOs achievements;
- Presentation of the methodologies applied and achievements accomplished by Istanbul University within the EfxINNOs project in Türkiye.
A series of highly informative and engaging presentations were delivered for young researchers, providing valuable insights into marine environmental monitoring and innovative research approaches.
The event was dedicated to the European Maritime Day celebrations.
The broader aim of the project is to develop and operate a cost-effective, innovative, and sustainable network of marine monitoring platforms. With partners from Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Georgia, the project fosters regional cooperation and contributes to the growth of marine innovation across the Black Sea region.
Funded by Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin and co-funded by the European Union with a total budget of € 1,643,648.40, the initiative represents an important step forward for Georgia and the entire Black Sea Basin—bridging scientific research, education, and environmental sustainability to support the development of a robust blue economy.
The research activities are ongoing.
