Students from Ilia State University visited Sweden, for a Swedish-Georgian project of marine archaeology.  This was followed by a visit of Swedish counterparts to Georgia (Ulrica Söderlind, Rubi Jaramillo, Stockholm University and Södertörn University).

In September and October 2010 an expedition of marine archaeology traveled to the village of Ukheshi in Ambrolauri Rayon. Here, at the lake Shaori, the group organized practical training for further improvement of diving skills. The location of the lake Shaori (1500 meters above the sea level) provides especially good conditions for the development of special skills that are needed for diving at high altitudes. The Georgian students had already completed training in this particular field in Sweden and were awarded certificates.

Several conditions contributed to the choice of a location for this training. Among them: cold water in Shaori Lake, and low visibility under water. These are two of the conditions to contribute to the training, which is directed towards improvement of diving skills in mountainous regions.

Training programs also included night diving and excursions. Visits to the caves next to the Shaori Lake revealed a significant are for future study from the perspective of marine archaeology.

Successful work of the Georgian participants resulted in the establishment of an ICAF group of Georgia (President Paata Donadze), which is subordinated to the international ICAF union (International Commission on the Anthropology of Food and Nourishment).
