This year eighty-nine students from the Ilia State University participated in the University Games, which were organized by the University Sport Federation of Georgia.
Sportsmen from Ilia State University won sixteen gold, thirteen silver and eleven bronze medals in seventeen different categories and became champions in individual as well as in team competitions.
The following persons showed the best scores in individual competitions: Ivane Salukvadze (table tennis), Levan Tsurtsumia (heavy athletics triathlon), Zurab Chkhetiani (heavy athletics triathlon), Zaza Tabagari (arm wrestling), Koba Mamamtavrishvili (arm wrestling), Merab Khinidze (2, field athletics), Sophia Manukyan (field athletics), Tamar Kvelidze (field athletics), Giorgi Bukhrikidze (2, swimming), Giogi Kekeklia (swimming), Anaida Giulgezyan (swimming), Gvantsa Suknidze (tennis), Irakli Koblianidze (Georgian wrestling), Shota Azaladze (chess).
Silver medals were awarded to Ilia Simonyan (table tennis), Mikheil Bodavali (triathlon in heavy athletics), Levan Tsurtsumia (arm wrestling), Besik Khuskivadze (field athletics), Sophia Manukyan (field athletics), Giorgi Bukhrikidze (swimming), Giorgi Kekelia (swimming), Merab Kashibadze (tennis), Giorgi Iadze (Georgian wrestling), Shota Vanishvili (judo), Irakli Koblianidze (judo), Nika Sabiashvili (arm wrestling).
Sportsmen Tornike Managadze (karate), Jaba Beridze (karate), Giorgi Petiashvili (karate), Beqa Datuadze (karate), David Nozadze (heavy athletics thriathlon), Giga Sherazadishvili (2, arm wrestling), Merab Jgharkava (field athletics), Natia Chachkhiani (swimming), Shota Ivanishvili (Georgian wrestling), Meri Zhorzholiani (chess) were the third and received bronze medals.
Head of the Administration of Ilia State University Sergo Ratiani, Dean of the College of Sport Derajan Kobelashvili and the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law Dimitri Japaridze handed over the prizes to the winners.
During the event Sergo Ratiani and the President of the Georgian Football Federation Zviad Sichinava signed a memorandum of cooperation. Head of the GFF said, that based on a convention with UEFA, the Federation carries out a program of trainer certification. The Federation regularly brings professionals from France and Switzerland to Georgia in order to train Georgian specialists. In the future training sessions will be extended to Ilia State University as well. According to Sergo Ratiani the cooperation will be mutually beneficial for the University and for the Federation, as it will bring the perspectives to keep up with the academic environment and get involved in raising the future professionals.
