PRESENTATION AT GENERAL GIORGI MAZNIASHVILI’S HOUSE MUSEUM

On May 6, 2011, at the house museum of prominent Georgian military figure General Giorgi Mazniashvili, a presentation of the monograph “Fight for Batumi: March 18-20th of 1921” was held in the village of Sasireti, Kaspi region.

The book was made and published through cooperation between Ilia State University Institute of Political Sciences and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The work is dedicated to the final stage of the war of 1921 – Defense of Batumi from the Turkish army attempting to cease Achara. Fight for Batumi is linked to Giorgi Mazniashvili’s name.

Military units of Georgia’s democratic republic led by Mazniashvili managed to preserve the Georgian city. 

The following authors were involved in the presentation: Director of the Institute of Political Sciences Malkhaz Matsaberidze, Dodo Chumburidze and Otar Janelidze, Rector of Military Academy Andro Barnovi, Director of Kaspi Municipality Museum Union Givi Meladze, etc. The presentation of the book was attended by members of the Assembly of Kaspi region, as well as teachers and students of the public school of the village of Sasireti.

Otar Janelidze granted the museum his archival document from Paris “the copy of the statement of 4 October of 1925 to the editor of the Homeland newspaper.”
