On October 23 a scientific practical conference “Olympic Sport – Sport for Everybody” was launched at the Ilia Chavchavadze University. It was initiated by the Faculty of Sports Science of the same university. Professor Sergo Ratiani, head of the Ilia Cahvchavadze University Administration delivered an opening speech. Participants were greeted by the head of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs David Namgalauri, deputy head Gia Galdava, professor Guram Bekaia, parlamentarian and olympic champion Giorgi Asanidze, dean of the Faculty of Sports Science professor Durmishkhan Tchitashvili, and an established TV and radio anchor Djamlet Khukhashvili.
Opening ceremony was followed by working session in different sections. Interesting speeches were delivered by associated professor N. Berianidze (Effectiveness of Use of Different Means During the Competitions on an Example of Acrobatics), G. Asanidze (Age Dynamics and Weight Group Distribution of Wrestlers), associated professor and chief editor of “Lelo” newspaper T. Gachechiladze (Sports for Everyone and Globalization), associated professor D. Chitashvili, professor E. Korinteli, professor M. Mirtskhulava (Some Aspects of Correlation of Main Indicators of Readiness Among High Profile Sportsmen), PhD student G. Zubitashvili (Achievements of High Profile Georgian Wrestlers and Future Perspectives), professor M. Erogina (Study of Vestibular Sustainability of Divers), professor I. Dolidze (Sports From Valeological Point of View) etc.
Sergo Ratiani said: Our university has prioritized several directions which are very important for developments of sports. Until now there was no scientific approach used towards development of sports and there were no masters degree or PhD offered in this realm. In order to solve this problem we decided to conduct several actions. It is necessary to research and elaborate appropriate recommendations for development of sports. Otherwise we will have no perspective. This scientific conference serves this specific purpose.
Durmishkhan Chitashvili: It is the first case in the history of Georgian sports that Ilia Chavchavadze State University initiated establishment of the Faculty of Sports Science. We are less than one year old, but we already managed to attract famous scientists and decided to organize a scientific practical conference. Rector of the university supported us in this initiative. I am sure, work of Georgian scientists will be very beneficial for sportsmen and their trainers.
Giorgi Asanidze: I have listened to many interesting talks. It is very important to implement them in everyday life for development of professional and amateur sports which our society lacks at the moment. Scientists presented data which is based on their long-term experience and it is necessary to take it into consideration. Abroad scientists are very actively involved in training of sportsmen. If it doesn’t become case in Georgia too, we will face difficulties in achieving international success.
David Namgalauri: Until now we have managed to become successful in individual sports, but this is not enough. If we want to improve our results, we will have to necessarily involve scientific groups in the process of training. The conference which was organized by the Ilia Chavchavadze State University was very timely and urgent. Our department is planning to establish very close relations with the university in order to support scientific work and the initiative. Together we will prioritize fields of sports and elaborate future plans.
The two-day conference covered wide range of issues. In order to avoid in sports traumas or accidents which involve professionals as well as youth, we need scientific conclusion. Sport needs scientific support.
