Joint Scholarship of UNESCO and Keizo Obuchi

A Joint program of UNESCO and the Government of Japan offers to provide funding for 20 young scholars from developing countries. Scholarships are offered on a yearly basis and are intended to fund the realization of innovative and original research.

Fellowships will be awarded to the individuals who have already obtained a masters degree and are willing to conduct research abroad for 3-9 months.

Scholarships are to be awarded to the persons who work in the following fields:

Environment (priority is given to marine sciences)
Intercultural dialogue
Information and communication technologies
Peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Qualification requirements:

Maximum age of a candidate should not exceed 40 years;
Candidates should provide an invitation letter from the universities where they plan to conduct their research;
Priority will be given to:

– Women
– Candidates from less developed countries;

Candidates should speak the language of the country where they plan to conduct their research;
Candidates are allowed to conduct their research in one or two countries.

In order to apply for the scholarship candidates should submit the following documents:

o    Two copies of higher education certificates (Masters level) along with the grades;
o    Reference letter;
o    Letter of approval from the inviting research institution;
o    Official document proving language skills for the language of the country where research will be conducted;
o    Detailed description of the planed research works (max. two pages). It should contain the following information:
1.    Goal of research, statement of purpose, innovation and importance;
2.    Expected outcomes;
3.    Research methods;
4.    Location of research;
5.    Duration of research;
6.    Detailed budget (min. USD 6,000 – max. USD 10,000).

Applications must be sent to the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.

Deadline for submission of applications is November 22, 2010, 6pm.
