On July 6, the yard of the Vake Basement Theatre hosted an exhibition of diploma projects of the first group of graduates from the Center of Fine and Applied Arts.
During the exhibition Center of Fine and Applied Arts of the Ilia State University presented diploma projects in a rather innovative way.
Administration of the Center suggested the first group of graduates from professional higher education programs to produce interdisciplinary group projects instead of individual works. As a result groups that consisted of students from different disciplines elaborated concepts and coordinated them with the management of the Center. These projects were:
1. Constant movement
2. Black and white spots in the space
3. Avant-garde in contemporary arts.
Each project united students from four different study programs:
- Monumental drawing, ceramics and stained-glass window
- Computer design and graphics
- Jewellery (gold-smith and enamel)
- Cloth, shoe and fabric design.
Students form the musical center wrote music for each separate project based on their concepts.
Thirty graduates presented their diploma projects, featuring works made of ceramics, stained-glass windows, computer design, jewellery, enamel, shoe and fabric design.
Works were graded from 51 to 100 points. Ten students out of thirty received the highest grade – 100 points. Head of the Center, Ms. Tamar Tsagareli pointed out that the students of the musical center of the Ilia State University also participated in the project, presenting their compositions targeting each separate concept.
Every participating student was supervised by her individual mentor, who worked with her on elaboration of the project. According to Tamar Tsagareli, the Center was able to realize interesting diploma works and present them at a large scale. This is an innovative approach for Georgian art scene.
