Ilia State University hosted the first international conference of comparative literature. A three day event: “Literature and Culture: Intertextual and Intercultural Dialogues/Postcolonial Discourse and Post-Colonial Reality” was organized by the Institute for Comparative Literature and was inaugurated on April 29, 2010 at the Ilia State University.

Conference was opened by the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of France in Georgia, Joel Batenaire. He was followed by the Head of the International Comparative Literature Association, Professor of the Saarland University Mr. Manfred Schmeling. 44 Georgian and French professors participated in round table “Comparativistic: Experience and Perspectives”. They discussed the following topics: “Development of comparative literary criticism in the 20th century”, “Postmodernism and pop culture”, “Philosophical nature of Eros” etc. 

Support for the conference which was organized by the Institute of Comparative Literature of the Ilia State University was provided by the Rustaveli Foundation, Embassy of France in Georgia, Aix Marseille University.
