Celebration Ceremony for Emeritus Title Awards at Ilia Chavchavadze State University13 professors of Iliauni have been awarded the emeritus respectful title Friday, July 10 at the ceremony at Ilia Chavchavadze University. Our university is the first ever high education institution to grant the title of Emeritus to full professors based on the initiative of the Law on Education. According to Georgian legislation Emeritus is the academic title bestowed on scientists or public persons for special merits.

According to the Law of Georgia (Chapter 5, Article 39) the high education institution should grant the title of Emeritus to persons with the rank of full professors over 65 years old. As prompted by the same law the high education institution should cover the difference of state pension and wages of Emeritus Professors paid until granting the title. Unlike other titles persons with Emeritus title will enjoy additional social guarantees assigned from the budget of the same institution.

Professor Gigi Tevzadze, the Rector of Il. Chavchavadze University, Khatuna Ochiauri the Deputy chair of Education, science and culture commitee made speeches. Prof. Natela Imedadze on behalf of Emeritus professors mentioned: “We are glad that Il. Chavchavadze University poses conditions that encourage Emeritus to keep leading fruitful scientific life”. After formal part of the event chamber orchestra of the Zakaria Paliashvili First Central State Music School delivered the concert for the audience. In year 2009 12 professors of the university were granted the title of Emeritus: Prof. Iason Badridze, Prof. Aivenho Shatirishvili, Prof. Giorgi Nakhutsrishvili, Prof. Juansher Chkareuli, Prof. Natela Imedadze, Prof. Shukia Apridonidze, Prof. Izabela Kobalava, Prof. Konstantine Pitskhelauri, Prof. Mzia Gventsadze, Prof. Guram (Vakhtang) Lebanidze, Prof. Mzia Bakradze, and Prof. Mzia Mikadze.
