German-Georgian Summer School “Education for Sustainable Development” Opened at Ilia State University

During September 23-28, Ilia State University will be hosting the German-Georgian Summer School “Education for Sustainable Development”, organized by the Institute of Geography Education and the Institute of German Language and Literature II at the University of Cologne (Germany), in cooperation with Ilia State University.

The Summer School aims to deepen participants’ knowledge of global and local sustainability challenges, as well as to introduce innovative teaching methods and media that foster the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into teaching practice.

The program includes seminars, workshops, excursions, and cultural events. Participants will have the opportunity to work on:

  • Challenges and Solutions: Providing in-depth knowledge about the most pressing issues of unsustainable development in Germany and Georgia. Participants will develop solutions and evaluate actions in the education sector.
  • Reflection on Teaching Projects: Analysis of German and Georgian approaches to education for sustainable development (ESD). Students will reflect on differences and develop ideas for their own teaching.
  • Linguistic and Subject-Specific Learning: Enhancing language and subject-matter competencies to communicate complex sustainability issues.
  • Innovative Media and OER: Introduction to the use of digital, freely accessible teaching materials to strengthen ESD in higher education. Students will learn how to use OER for creating teaching materials and discuss their potential for broader ESD integration.
