Professor David Aprasidze’s Article Published in Frontiers in Political Science within the EMBRACE Project

In September 2025, the international peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Political Science published Professor David Aprasidze’s article “Civil Society and Anti-Corruption Reform in Georgia: Revisiting the Rose Revolution.” The article was prepared and published within the framework of the Horizon Europe project EMBRACE (Embracing Change: Overcoming Obstacles and Advancing Democracy in the European Neighbourhood).

In his work, the author examines the role of civil society actors before, during, and after the Rose Revolution, with a particular focus on the dynamics of anti-corruption reforms. The study highlights the dual role of civil society – on the one hand, as a driving force of democratic processes and competition, and on the other hand, as a partner of the government during post-revolutionary and transitional periods.

The article is openly accessible and can be read or downloaded via the following link: https://shorturl.at/rZN4D

As a reminder, the Horizon Europe project “Embracing Change: Overcoming Obstacles and Advancing Democracy in the European Neighbourhood” (EMBRACE) aims to study and analyse the factors hindering democratization in the European neighbourhood, identify ways to overcome them, and propose new policy instruments to improve the EU’s policy for supporting democracy (EUDP) in its neighbourhood. The project began in October 2022 and will conclude in September 2025.
