On September 30, director of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard, Professor Timothy Colton delivered a public lecture at our university. Main topic of the lecture was former President of the Russian Federation and current Premier Minister Vladimir Putin and perspectives of change of the Russian domestic policy.

Prof. Colton possesses a long-term background in research of the Soviet and Russian politics. He is the author of a great number of works dedicated to this topic. Among them are: The Enigmatic Mr. Putin (2007), Are Russians Undemocratic? (2001), Post communist Russia, the International Environment and NATO (2008). Prof. Colton also wrote a biography of the former President of Russia Boris Yeltsin (Yeltsin: A Life, 2008).

During a Q&A session professor Colton answered the questions of the students and journalists on Putin’s political goals regarding Georgia. Audience was also interested in his opinion if Russian policy towards Georgia expresses a state vision of the country or is based on personal attitudes of the presidents.
