On October 13, Ilia State University hosted a workshop entitled “Current Discussion on Research Data and Research Software in Germany,” delivered by Dr. Yves Vincent Grossmann as part of an ongoing project.
The workshop brought together academic and research staff representatives from various universities involved in the project, providing a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, professional dialogue, and the exploration of future collaboration opportunities.
During the workshop, Dr. Yves Vincent Grossmann, Head of the Research Data and Research Software Team at Goethe University Frankfurt’s University Library, shared insights into Germany’s experience in research data management, the development of modern research infrastructure, and research software.
The workshop focused on several key topics, including modern approaches to research data management, the sustainability of data services, the role of data stewards, data literacy, the application of artificial intelligence, research reproducibility, and opportunities for advancing Open Science.
The event also provided an opportunity to explore potential future joint projects and the planning of related activities and processes, aimed at strengthening research data management practices and supporting the development of modern research systems across participating institutions.
An important outcome of the meeting was Dr. Grossmann’s confirmation of his readiness to provide expert support to Ilia State University in the process of implementing new systems and modern approaches, including through the sharing of expertise, practical experience, and professional knowledge.
This international exchange represents an important step toward strengthening institutional research infrastructure, promoting innovative research support services, and advancing the implementation of Open Science principles.
The workshop also laid the groundwork for continued collaboration, future joint initiatives, and the development of sustainable research data management practices.
The workshop was held within the framework of the European Commission–funded project “Responsible Conduct of Research – Research Integrity and Ethics in Georgian Universities (ETHICS).” The main objective of the project is to improve mechanisms, procedures, and services related to research ethics and integrity in universities.
