Professor Giorgi Gvalia Conducts Outreach Activities Across Georgia within the EU Funded Jean Monnet Chair Project

Professor Giorgi Gvalia has conducted a series of meetings at universities, secondary schools and other venues across Georgia as part of the EU-funded project Jean Monnet Chair at Iliauni (2023–2026). The meetings brought together students, academics, school pupils, and other interested members of the public and attracted considerable interest among participants.

In addition to presenting the objectives and activities of the Jean Monnet Chair project, Professor Gvalia introduced his recently published book, EU as a Global Actor: Institutions, Values and Interests. Copies of the book were donated to the libraries of participating schools and universities.

During the visits, Professor Gvalia delivered lectures on a range of topics related to the European Union and European integration. These included the history of European integration and its achievements and challenges; EU–Georgia relations; the EU’s engagement with the Eastern Partnership countries; the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the EU and the enlargement process; the EU’s relations with major global powers; and the EU’s role as a normative international actor, as well as the challenges associated with this role.

One of the meetings was held within the framework of an international summer school, which brought together students and professors from Georgia and the United States. The summer school focused on security perspectives in the broader Eurasian regional context. As part of the program, Professor Gvalia delivered a lecture on the European Union’s relations with the South Caucasus, examining the EU’s role, interests, and challenges in the region.

The project was also represented during the Europe Day celebrations in Tbilisi, where the Jean Monnet Chair project banner was displayed and the book EU as a Global Actor: Institutions, Values and Interests was presented to visitors and participants, contributing to the wider dissemination of the project’s activities and outputs.

Together, these activities contributed to raising awareness of the European Union, fostering informed discussion on European integration, and promoting the objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair project among diverse audiences throughout the country.
